Engine Cooling problem
1979 Chevy Corvette V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic alot miles

repairing old 79' 'vette' that has been around, but sat up about 10 years in need of repair.
Got it running and started on suspension. Then took motor down to repair valves. I.E. Head job. Runs fantastic now. Installed guages under hood -don't trust dash- needs alot. Cranked it up and lower radiator hose was squeezing flat. Took out the 195 degree thermo -left out and flushed. Added some flush stuff-no thermo and ran with radiator cap on. Drove but ran at 220. Cut off and cooled. Cranked up and upper hose was squeezing shut. What gives?New radiator buy the way. And I also wanted to flush cause I saw stuff floating in r. Fluid. Had to come from block.

Hi macferris, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

10yrs-long time Okay how's the water pump did you test it-if not do below

One way to test for a bad water pump is to squeeze the upper radiator hose when the engine is hot and idling. Careful, because teh hose willb e HOT! If you do not feel much coolant circulating through the hose when you rev the engine, the pump may be bad.

You need to flush the engine thoroughly-The way I do it for that long period of time-I disconnect the heater hoses and popped a freeze plug and pour 1/2 gal vinegar or muractic acid in the rad and run the water constantly till it clears.

Water pump is def bad. Its not pushing the coolant around. After u replace it, maybe add some water wetter. Its a good product that cools ur engine better than coolant and water alone. Check it out.
