2001 Opel Astra Exhaust emissions light

Exhaust emission light goes on and off while driving and may stay on for a long period of time. Car cannot be held at steady pace and is jumping. Jumping eases at higher speeds. Car has recently been serviced but light was not on during service. Please help me! I can't afford to go to a mechanic again.

you need to have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer to find out why the light is on ! .. probably a bad coil/wire/plug
