Hi:
When the lights are dim like you described, usually there is a ground issue or the light socket is in poor condition. Now, the idea that it shuts the engine off to me even further indicates a ground issue.
I attached a pic below. I suspect the right headlamp is the one that is dim because the fog lights ground at the same place. Look at the pic and locate the ground indicated. Check to make sure it is in good condition, not loose or corroded. If it is, then you need to locate the splice S103 and S113 to see if there is a problem there.
Now, my next theory is this. The high beam ground is located near the ignition coil ground, which is common for all coils. I honestly feel that is where the problem is. When you turn the high beam on, the existing ground, which is most likely poor, can't handle the load and the engine looses ground to the coils and shuts the engine down.
If you look at the second pic, you will see that the ground G109 is located in the same area as G107, the lower left side of the engine. This is where I would recommend starting.
I noted that you are a mechanic, so I assume this makes sense. LOL Listen, if you need anything or have other questions, let me know. Also, if you could let me know what you find, I would appreciate it.
Take care and let me know.
