Hi everyone, I'm new here but I heard this was a great forum, so I'm looking forward to your help :)

I have an 88 Olds Toronado (3.8L V6) that is only running on 5 cylinders. Five of the Six posts for the spark plug wires seem to be giving a good spark but the sixth, which is the top left one, seems to be giving no spark. I have made sure that the spark plug works and that the spark plug wire is working but I still get no spark. Does this mean that I need a new coil pack? A new ignition module? I do know that there are 2 or 3 sensors that also control this operation that could also need to be replaced but I am not sure what to do, any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

( sorry if any of my terminology is wrong or silly, I don't know too much about cars :) )

Well I've done some testing, I'm thinking that it's not the coil pack. I hooked up a test light to each of the connections leading to the coil pack. With someone helping me I cranked the motor and each connection gave me a quick blinking light, except the one that doesn't give a spark, which gave me a real slow blinking, (different from the others). Leading me to think that it is something telling the coil pack not to fire correctly. Hmmm damn cars.
Whatddya think?

I still don't know what is going on guys, I still cannot figure this out. Thinking of replacing the ignition module but that is a steep 250 bux, the module depends on two sensors I believe, one of which is very hard to replace correctly I guess. Can anyone tell me the type of computer my car has, It's got to have one, probably an OB-1 or OD-1 whatever you call it. Any input would be appreciated, thank you.

Broc :(

Try switching the coil packs to see if the problem follows the coil
