1999 Oldsmobile Bravada 244000 miles

K heres my problem when I turn the ignition over it does nothing and the key locks in the ignition and I have to release it with the safety switch, I can also hear a clicking from the solenoid which leads me to believe thats what I need to replace and I was just making sure I buy the right part.

I would first try jumping the car with a fresh battery to rule out just a weak cell in one of yours, you can also run a wire from the positive on a seperate car to the starter solenoid which will bypass the ignition system, to see if it is again a weak battery and if it still does the same then yes I would look into working on the starter

I'll give that a shot but why would the key lock in the ignition i've never seen that before
