1990 Other Oldsmobile Models car dies when putting into gear

1990 Other Oldsmobile Models 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

We are driving, and go to a stop. When we depress gas we find the car dies. When we start the car again and put into gear, the car dies immediately. We can start the car but unless we let the car rest for at least 10 minjutes, it will not stay running when put into gear. We thought it was because the transmition fluid was low, but we filled it nd no change.
