I know nothing about cars. So my car broke down and needed a starter. Well it sat for about 2 months, would not start for nothing in the world. Right before the starter went out I had a brand new battery and fusable link done on it. I put it in the tuffy shop and told them I thought it was the starter but to check and see if anything else was wrong. So I got the car back today. They put a starter, brake line, and air filter on it. When I first went to pick it up it took a few tries to start it but we got it to stay on and I drove home fine. Then I drove again fine. And one more time, fine. Then I went somewhere and when I went to leave I noticed I left the lights on. Not for a long time. Maybe half an hour? So the car would not start at all. I got a jump and it started and the radio was on. The radio turned off by itself with the car still on and then I hit the button for the headlights and the car died. Would not start again. No noise, just nothing. So I got another jump and was ok but I hit the headlight button and didn't have any lights but the car stayed on. So I drove home with no lights and while I was driving my speedometer was just going crazy which it does not normally do. Got home. Hit the head light button. No lights. Hit it again. Lights come on. Turn the car off. Will not start again. I try to start it and get a clicking. Then for awhile when I am trying to start it there's no noise at all. Now when I am trying to start it there's clicking again. What's wrong please? This is my first car. I should also add it does not have a muffler cause it fell off. Thanks guys. I really appreciate any help.

Hi there,

First thing is to make sure that the battery is fully charged and the terminals are tight and clean, check that the main battery cable at the starter motor is tight. When running have the alternator charge rate tested, if this is to low the battery will not re charge. Check these things first and re post if more information is required. As for the muffler, this will not affect the problem you are having, but it should be repaired as exhaust fumes can be entering the car, which can be dangerous to your health.
