Need help my 1988 cutlass when cold will start fine and runs and idels great but as soon as I shut it off and then try to start again it wont start. Replaced all 3 coils packs, spark plugs, and wires. Frustrated becasuse no check engine light on or any other warning light.

Hi
When it won't start pull plug wire check for spark if good then spray carb cleaner into intake see if it lights.
That will give direction of diagnosis.

Spark is present spayed some starting fluid in the air intake and it started right back up

Engine Performance problem
1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 167000 miles

cutlass when cold will start fine and runs and idels great but as soon as I shut it off and then try to start again it wont start. Replaced all 3 coils packs, spark plugs, and wires. Frustrated because no check engine light on or any other warning light. Checked plugs spark is present spayed some starting fluid in the air intake and it started right back up.

Check fuel pressure 40-47 psi maybe weak causing har start hot. also the crankshaft sensor reference signal needs to reach ECM to engage fuel pump relay and are prone to fail in heat.

When it won't start put finger on fuel pump relay feel if it clicks.
