1995 Oldsmobile Ciera 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 110K miles
After an annual required inspection was conducted at a local service station my car started to get sluggish accelerating and the engine light would come on. From a stop I would have to put the pedal to the floor and the car would slowly start off until it got up to speed. Even at speed the throttle is not very responsive. I checked the brakes (drums in the rear) to see if they were adjusted properly, checked all the fluids etc. I hooked up a diagnostic device to get a code from the computer and it read "Unable to contact" so I checked the fuses. Found two fuses blown a 10 and 20 amp fuse, one for the alternator and the other for a fan. When I replaced these the car ran fine again for about ten minutes. When I went to change the fuses again they were NOT blown. I checked the wiring harness for the alternator and had the alternator and battery tested, ALL OK. So it does not appear to be the brakes, transmission or the alternator/battery. Still can not talk to the vehicle with the diagnostic device. Could the poor performance and sluggish nature of the engine be caused by a bad ECU/ECM? Is this the culprit or does anyone have ideas on other areas I should focus my attention to resolve this issue?
