If I try to start it soon after it has been shut off completely dead, no crank, nothing. Will sometimes start if I put the car in neutral. If I leave it alone for an hour, starts right up. Is this a pass lock system problem? Is there a way to reset the system?

Hi
If the car starts in neutral, chances are it's the neutral safety switch. However, does it always restart eventually? Also, when it doesn't start is the security light flashing when you turn the key? Do the dash lights come on when it doesn't start?

Hi Joe,
Yes, the car does restart eventually, in Park, if you leave it alone for about an hour. The security light is flashing and the dash lights do come on when it doesn't start?
Maybe a problem with the pass-lock system?
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Barry:
The problem sounds like the security system is locking you out. There is a small resister in the key that the sensor (in the steering column) recognizes. If either is weak, the engine looses spark and fuel preventing the car from being stolen. If you have another key, you may want to try it. If not, you will need to contact a dealer that has the necessary test equipment. The flashing security light is the indicator as to where the problm lies.
