My 91 Olds 98 has been giving me alot of sensor fits. A few weeks ago I was driving stop and go and the car began to idle rough and make a roaring noise whenI accelerated, it didn"t die on me but sounded as if it could. The engine light had come on. It did it several more times but only after driving it for a bit stopping and going. I ran a test and it gave me 3 different codes 22, 41, and 42(tps, cam curuit, and?). I was told it could be a ecm issue so I went to a junk yard and got another one, hooked it up and the car ran better, but the light was still on and after driving it for an hour it began making the same noise as above and gave code 41. I have already replaced the cam sensor and seen the magnet on the gear. I thought it could be the TPS so I squirted some wd40 on the moving parts of the TPS, and suprisingly for the last couple of days it hasn't begun making noise. Could this be associated with that code? I don't want to spend $ on a part if I don't need it. Any help would be great. Oh the light is still on. I want to drives this car til the wheels fall off!

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and it should clear the light. See if any codes come back after being cleared. Any sensor can make the vehicle run odd or cause driveability issues. If no codes come back and all is good I wouldnt bother to replace anything until it has a problem. If the ligth comes back on, you will be starting fresh with codes since the ECM was cleared
