Hey guys. This is a bit tricky but I hope you can help me. The light came on like a month ago and it had never appeared before. So I added oil, the light went off, I drove a full day and no light, then the next day I turned it on again. To make a long story short, I changed the oil pressure gauge on it, Ive been complying with the oil changes every 5,000 miles. I'm an Uber driver who drives 10 hrs from Monday through Saturday, so I need this car to be in tip top shape. Yesterday I drove it after the gauge was changed and nothing no light, today it turned on again and now I don't know if it could be the oil pump or a clogged valve or a faulty sensor. What do you guys think? Funny thing is that it comes and goes, my mechanic friend turned on the engine and saw the inside of the engine and we could see the oil working fine. I'm hoping its something simple and NOT the oil pump. Thanks guys.

So you changed the gauge in the instrument cluster or the oil pressure sending unit? Also you would really need to check the actual pressure to see if it's normal when the light comes on. Your friend that works on cars should be able to help with that and surprised he didn't mention that.

Yeah he didn't mention that because he's a thief lol. I'm not going back with him. And I do not know which oil pressure part he replaced, he did show me the part though, it looked like a small screw to me. Does that help?

Alrighty I did have the oil pressure tested and it is indeed the oil pump. Is the oil pump the same for a diesel and gas engine? Or are they different? I'm going to add the link to the pump that I want to buy but what throws me off is that it says diesel, and mine is a gas engine. http://www.amazon.com/98-06-Volkswagen-Beetle-Passat-Diesel/dp/B013H47BV6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461606927&sr=8-1&keywords=03+passat+1.8+oil+pump is that the right one?
