Oil pressure is normal when driving until it heats up, then drops when you come to a stop and then goes back to normal when you give gas. When you start back driving then drops every time you come to a stop and are idling. Engine has oil and it does have knocks and minor noises.

Your engine is wearing.

It happens to all of us!

You can remove the oil pressure sender and install a mechanical pressure gauge to see exactly what the pressure is. My gauge has a long tube and I am able to run it out from under the hood and in the seat beside me.

From your description, it just sounds like normal/prolonged wear, the mechanical gauge will most likely tell the same story.

Last picture is of my gauge.

Doubtful that the oil pressure sending unit is doing this, They are inexpensive, You could possibly show an improvement if you stick on a new one. I would not hold my breath.

Guessing that a good bit of your pressure loss is cam bearing/rod/main bearing wear.

I looked to see if a high volume oil pump was available for your engine at several online auto parts stores- I saw none (sorry).

We can maybe make the best out of this situation, before it is rebuild time.

About three hundred miles before your next oil change, pour 5oz. of "Seafoam" into your oil fill hole (into the oil). This may get rid of some of those noises you are hearing such as lifter/rocker arm rattle during that three hundred mile cleaning.

Picture one below.

Pour the remainder of the Seafoam bottle into your gas tank.

Okay, now the three hundred miles are up does it sound any better? We are done with Seafoam in the crankcase for now.

Change the oil.

Let's not put in that last quart of motor oil!

Let's substitute that last one for a quart of "Lucas Oil Stabilizer"

Picture two below.

I run a bottle every time I change oil, my Jeep sounds great!

You can leave this in until your next oil change, use it each and every change from now on.

This should improve oil pressure and maybe lessen oil consumption.

Here is the deal!

Return to this thread with news of the results!

We will be here.

Thanks,
