I’m having issues accelerating when car is heated. No overheating issues but when first starting car goes in drive and reverse no problem. Not sure if bad gas could be issue or fuel pump, as car ran previously the night before no issue. When trying to accelerate car just idles up but no power as car will just roll, when putting in reverse, seems to take seconds to shift in to gear but when returning to drive, you don’t feel car shift in gear at all. Thanks for your assistance.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If the engine revs but doesn't accelerate, either the clutches are slipping or the fluid is dirty enough or low enough to cause the transmission's line pressure to drop. Have you checked the fluid level? Has the transmission ever been serviced?

Here are directions for checking the fluid.

With car on level ground, pull trans-axle dipstick and check level of fluid immediately after engine is shut off (within one minute). The fluid level should be between Full and Low marks. Push dipstick all the way in to check fluid level. If level is at or below Low mark, add Dexron II/IIE/III type automatic transmission fluid.

Check that first. The fluid should be a reddish color. If it is black or brown, it should be serviced. However, I have seen them so dirty that servicing them causes the transmission to slip more.

If I misunderstood what you described, let me know. Also, to service this transmission, all you do is drain the fluid and then refill it.

Let me know if you have other questions or need additional help.

Take care,
Joe
