I was driving on the freeway when my car shut off after I got off. I let the car roll and then I jump started it that way. Once the car was started it sounded really bad and I rolled into the parking lot looked under the car and seen it was leaking. When I looked into it further the hose on the bottom of the radiator was completely disconnected and all of radiator fluid leaked out. I refilled it and was able to go back home from work and start the car the next day just fine but it sounded bad. I had a PO118 trouble code so I reset it thinking that it just needed fluid and that is what set it off was it being empty. I started the car up trying to troubleshoot it and drove it around it was kind of hesitant and I was getting a open loop fault on it but no check engine light so I parked the car and went out the next day and it would not start and it was backfire and sounded really bad but it never started back up. So I replace the coolant temperature sensor but it is still doing the same thing. I do not know if the engine is blown or what is going on. Can you help?

Check the engine oil. If it is muddy/milky, then your cylinder head gasket is probably blown. It has leaked coolant into the combustion chamber, where it mixed with the engine oil. The oil dipstick would look more muddy, and the oil fill cap would probably have some milky looking crap on the bottom of it. Start there and let us know what you find.

The coolant loss has resulted in the engine overheating causing a blown head gasket. Initially the problem was not too serious and you could start but as it goes on, the compression gets from bad to worse resulting in the no start. You would need to have the engine checked and most likely need to have the head gasket replaced.

I have not seen any milky substance in the oil cap or dipstick. Funny thing is, it ran fine until I cleared the trouble codes. I did notice a lot of pressure in the radiator when I removed the cap even though it will not start. I need to pull the plugs today and check for coolant.

Well, I guess it got so hot the plug wires welded to the spark plugs. All four will not come off. Before I give up completely on this car I had one last question. Would a bad coolant temperature sensor cause the same starting problems ( backfires, smells rich and no start)?

Yes it would but for your problem, I don't think it is that simple. If you perform an engine compression test, it would tell you if it has sufficient compression to start.
