Check brakes all around it may be the brake squealers making noise.

Hello, I'm Danny.

The transmission will definitely need to be removed and be rebuilt. Having the transmission rebuilt will be a lot less then having a new one installed. Most transmission shops have plenty of your transmissions ready to go (4L60E or the 4L80E) So it can usually be done in an 8 hour day. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Just happened today, cranked truck, put from P into R to back out, briefly engaged and moved about a foot in reverse before I hear a pretty loud noise from underneath. Something either broke. Or disconnected. Tran immediately disengaged. I have no reverse. When I select it I hear a high-pitched whine. Still have full function P and all forward gears.
Will still only crank in P or N. Fluid ok.
Internal?. Or any chance something less major?
Thanks a lot.

The reverse reaction sun shell is stripped, this is a pretty common problem. They have an updated sun shell for these. You have to remove the trans and tear it down, there not to bad to do, I've done a few. Post back with any other questions.
