I bought this truck, it's a 1997 Ford Lariat with a 2005 Ford F150 motor and transmission installed in the Ford lariat the truck cranks and idles perfect but when you throw the truck and drive and proceed to take off you have power abruptly followed by no power the truck proceeds to speed up then spudders. The truck proceeds to speed up then sputters over an over its not getting all the power all the time. Can anyone help me?

Hi,

Because the engine was changed, this will be a bit more difficult because I don't know what was changed. For example, the transmission controls are totally different between the two module years as well as the powertrain control module (PCM).

It could be something such as the 1997 fuel pump being used can't supply enough fuel for the different injection system/control module.

Is the check engine light staying on or flashing when the engine is running? Have you tried scanning the computer to see if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored?

Also, when this happens, are there any odd odors or smoke from the exhaust? Did you purchase the vehicle this way or is it something that suddenly started?

Let me know as much as you can. Anything you can think of that may help me diagnose the issue may help. Also, let me know if you were informed when the engine was changed that all electronics were changed as well to update to the 2005.

Take care,

Joe
