I just installed a rebuilt engine in my son's 1996 f-150, now transmission won't shift into any gear. What did I do wrong?

Did you drain it during the repair and if you did, how much fluid did you refill?

Linkage is connected and it moves when the shifter is moved. Did not drain the tranny when we replaced the engine, we did lose some fluid, but put 2 quarts back in afterward and the level appears to be fine.

When you put 2 Qts in-was the tranny nice and hot and checked in all gears? If so best bring it in and have the pressures checked-

Took it in to the transmission shop. Apparently we accidentally stabbed the pump with the torque converter. :( Anyway, $1800 later should be good as new! Thanks for the suggestions. Matt (son.)
