Had car stored for many years, but maintained quite often. Auto no lock up, runs cold. Think thermostat stuck open. Will that cause running cold not lock up converter? I put carboard front of radiator. Was locking up weird though. So will open thermostat stuck open cause no lock up torque converter? Otherwise four speed auto shifts smooth. It has new axles and transmission fluid.
Thank you, Jimmy

Jimmy,

The different systems require certain temperatures to be reached. If it isn't warming up, there is a good chance that is the problem. Considering it worked properly when you restricted the airflow causing it to warm up.

I would suggest the thermostat to see if that takes care of the issue. I know these vehicles actually have a thermostat that doesn't open until the trans reaches a specified temp. Once reached, then it allows ATF to flow through the cooler.
