Bleed air from the system which is probably the problem.

Here is a guide that will help you fix the problem.

Engine getting hot, fans working, radiator ice cold and heater blowing cold.
How do I burp the air from the cooling system? I have tried the burp valve on the top of the water pump housing, I get coolant but no air.

I would first make sure that the thermostat is working. Take it out and boil it up in a pot on the stove and see if it opens fully. If in doubt replace it and the gasket as well.

I have replaced the thermostat and water pump. I just cannot seem to get the cooling system to burp all of the air out of the system.

Have have seen where people will lift the rear of the car or the front up about 2 feet while burping to help get the air out but it could be pumped into the coolant system by a blown head gasket. Here is a guide to check just in case.

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

When im driving the engine and the heater will run fine for awhile then the heater will start to blow cold air and the engine temp will increase rapidly until it is red-lined. I have to pull over and turn the engine off. I can hear the fan running but it doesn't seem to be helping, but after a minute I can start the engine and the engine will start to cool down and the heater blows heat again. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

I think you have a 3.4L engine. The most likely suspect is a leaking cylinder head gasket. That can allow combustion gases to sneak into the cooling system. If it pools under the thermostat, it can fail to open resulting in no coolant flow. That means no hot coolant giving up its heat at the radiator and no hot coolant to the heater core in the dash. Thermostats need to be hit with hot liquid to open. Hot air won't do it.

Your mechanic can do a quick, five-minute chemical test at the radiator to test for one form of a leaking head gasket. That involves drawing air from the radiator or reservoir through a glass cylinder with two chambers partially-filled with a special dark blue liquid. If combustion gases are present, the liquid will turn bright yellow.

My car will not blow hot air until I am driving, but it blows then cold the whole time. The temperature gauge moves back and forth from hot to cold and I hear noises coming from the dashboard, it sounds like the heater core is trying suck water in, but it sounds like its not getting water. I have changed the heater core and it worked great for about two weeks and now it is worst than before. I have also changed the thermostat and checked for air pockets.

Check coolant level. It is probably low and for both heater hoses being hot. See pictures for way to bleed air. Air bleed will either be on thermostat or near top of radiator.
