1994 Nissan Truck Brake Lights

I had to replace the gas tank filler neck and gas cap after the old one was torn off when a rear tire lost it's tread. When I finished the brake lights were on.
Ican't get them to go out. I've tried everything I could think of short of replacing the brake light switch at the brake peddal. Could the brake light problem be related to replacing the filler neck??????

Check the brake switch if it has power to it-No power check fuse-if okay -adjust or replace the switch-still no pwer at the light-trace wire form switch to lights-
