Electrical problem
1991 Nissan Truck 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

ive replaced mt battery and alternator and my battery keeps dying. Ive made sure theres no acceceries like my cd player pulling it down by disconnecting them. Someone mention a ground wire to the block. Ive found a loose wire going to the block and it has oil on it but its hard to get to. It runs from the wiring harness where the alternator wires are. Could this be the problem? I jus need an opinion.
thanks, tommy

Do some simple tests for us. You have to have a voltmeter, though.

Turn off all accessories, and pull key out of the ignition.
1. Disconnect battery posts. Check and record battery voltage. If it below 12.5 volts, re-charge and repeat test.
2. Connect battery posts. Re-check and record battery voltage. If voltage drops more than 0.25 volts than test 1, you have a current draw.

Start vehicle.
1. Check and record voltage at alternator terminal and ground. If it is not in between 13.0 and 15.9 volts, alternator is bad.
2. Check and record voltage at battery terminals. If it is not the same as the alternator output (less 0.1 volt), check connecting cables from the battery to the alternator.

Let us know what you find out.
