Once in a great while, after starting my engine, I put it in drive and pressing the gas pedal does nothing. The engine does not move, only idles, its like the throttle is not working. My yellow light SERVICE ENGINE SOON (something like that) was on. My mechanic ran the diagnostic, which says P2135 code, something about T/P sensor. But because it doesn't happen during diagnostic, hard to determine cause. Appreciate any advice on whats wrong as its a little scary to drive my car now. Regards, sags

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

If you are getting this TPI fault indication, there is a problem with the TPI, I would be getting it changed before it lets you down and strands you somewhere.

Is this problem unique to my sentra? The nissan tech has never heard of such a problem. Problem is, I got my diagnostic from a private, and nissan won't take a diganostic other than their selves. Is this common practice? How much do you think it will cost me? It wouldn't be covered under my car warranty?

Hi there, TPI faults are not uncommon, I would first check with your warranty company and confirm that it is coverd, if you have any doubts, get the code cleared and see if it re sets, this is normal practice to re check findings, do thios if it has not bed re checked as yet.

Strange. Seems like a rare instance in Hawaii.I called 2 nissan dealers who have no idea what I'm talking about. So if code does not reset, then what does it mean? And also, you didn't reply to my cost question. What is your cost estimate to repair this?

The TPI is the sensor that tell the ECU what throttle percentage is applied, this is vital information required for the ECU to establish correct air. Fuel parameters for any given throttle position, as for cost, the it will only take about 1/2hr to fit and a s for cost of the item, that I can't help you with as I am in Australia any my pricing will not be any good for you.

Thanks Mark. I'm wondering if you can contact someone in US for the cost of parts? I want a good estimate so I know my nissan dealer is not ripping me off as I had a bad experience with them already.

Hi there,

A TPI should cost around $130. US retail, see pic as well.
