1999 Nissan Sentra

i have a 1999 nissan sentra that wont turn on.I am not a car expert. My dad knows alot about cars though. He checked it out&&when you try to start the car it makes a sound like its trying to turn on but when you let go of the key its silent. My dad is trying to locate the ignition sensor but is having no luck. Any ideas?

Do you mean that the engine rotates (cranks) but will not start?

Have your dad check these item:
ASD relay fuel pump fuse
Test fuel pressure at the fuel rail
Test voltage at fuel pump connector
Check EGR valve
