1987 Nissan Sentra Distributer problem

Our pickup and sentra was broke down- both distributor problems. (Wierd I know) My son came to visit and fixed the P.U. By rebuilding the distributor. He didn't get to the Nissan before he had to leave. Can a distributor be rebuilt on the sentra? One mechanic told us yes and another no. If not I guess we will have to buy a new one since there isn't really a way to test one from a junkyard? Thanks

There's no rebuild involved in the Sentras distributor-it calls for replacement due to the crank angle sensor or the IC unit in it.
