I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima 3.0L w/auto transmission, 150,000 miles, which shifts into 2nd only when the engine has rev'd to 3500rpm. Any thoughts?

I would check your speed sensor and change your tranny fluid. That may improve the problem. You car should normally shift closer to 3000 rpms, but the first place to check would be the speed sensor.

Last transmission service?
Have the throtttle position and vehicle speed sensors check-before you get to the shift solenoids.
