You say your vehicle usually has to be started twice? Do you mean that you have to "try" starting it two times and the second time the engine fires or do you mean that the engine stalls after starting the first turn of key and has to be refired?
If the engine is firing up and stalling out then the starter would have nothing to do with that. If it is having trouble starting and making the noise, you can have the starter removed and taken to a auto parts store such as AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts for a free test to determine if you need a new starter, or just a component of the starter.
