Engine jerking

I have a truck powered by z24 engine with carburetor. Bought the car while it had been parked for some time. I recently changed head gasket (one bolt holding head had ripped off threads). Changed bolt and re-threaded torqued okay.
When the car is in put in first gear it jerks as it moves of as if it was in third gear and the idling roughly low (rev counter not working).

The first thing I recommend is to check for diagnostic trouble codes. This is an OBD 1 system, so you don't need a scanner to check. Follow this link:

Keep in mind, there are many things that can cause this. Are you certain there are no engine vacuum leaks? Does the engine run normally beyond an idle? Is the choke sticking shut? If it does it all the time, are the plug wires correctly installed? The list goes on.

Let me know if you find codes. I will be able to help you much easier. Otherwise, we will have to check several components. One easy thing is check to make sure there are no disconnected or loose vacuum lines.

I can't locate OBD1 relay. Tried to find in all mentioned places cant find it.
The vacuum lines have been removed and blanked. The plugs and plug wires are new and correctly wired. However, I am not sure of the carburetor system.

I am thinking of changing the whole motor and put in a diesel engine. Reason being that gas is expensive in my country and seems to do less mileage compare to same amount of diesel. Is it possible to install a diesel engine? Which engine will fit in well with less or no modifications? The truck is right hand driven.

I wish I could give you a good answer related to the engine change. I will tell you that the vehicle was never set up for a diesel so everything would need changed. It seems like it would be more trouble than it is worth.

What do you mean the vacuum hoses are all blank? Can you see where vacuum hoses were once located?

As far as the data link connector, it's located just above the hood release handle. See picture 1.
