1997 Nissan Altima radiator fan

I have a 1997 Nissian Altima with 96,000 miles.
Recently I had to replace my radiator but I noticed that for the longest time since I can remember, the two radiator fans have never turned on. Is their a certain temperture or miles before they turn on?
I wonder if this is what cracked my radiator.

Check the thermostat and the coolant temperature sensor/Temperature switch the computer has to read it before it can activate the fan relays.
