Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 95k miles

while removing the 02 sensor on my 95 altima, the threads stripped out on the sensor and fouled up the threads on the insert the 02 sensor threads into. Can you replace this insert? If so, what size is the socket used for this? Or can I just send a tap down the threads and re-cut them? If so, what size tap do I use?
Thanks

The insert is actually welded to the exhaust pipe, so it does not have an easy replacement. When so much heat has frozen your sensor to the exhaust it almost always oversizes the bore and rethreading is not possible.

Depending on the rust to the exhaust, try taking it by an exhaust shop. They will either be able to weld in a new insert or have to replace that section of exhaust. We even had one driver elect to have the o2 sensor welded into the exhaust knowing that it would require replacement of that portion later.

Good luck.
