I drive a 1991 Nissan 300ZX non-turbo and recently there has been an extremely loud humming noise coming from the rear end. The noise varies in loudness at different speeds. It is very bad at 35-45 mph and almost unbearable to be sitting in the car at 55-65 mph. Even though the noise varies at different speeds, it is always present once I get above 20 mph. I know the noise is coming from the rear end because if I lean forward towards the windshield I can't hear it as well. It also sounds like it may be louder in the rear left but that may be because I am seated on the left side when driving. Any idea? Thank you.

Test drive on left curve turns and right curve turns if there is difference in noise changes. Also, I would inspect the LR wheel by jacking up the rear and remove the wheel, spin it manually as fast as you can to feel if there is an unsteady pebbles feel, comparing the RR, and look for any rust in around the wheel hub bearing to verify. But my guess would be wheel bearing from your descriptions.
