Remove the Stat and see what happens to your overheating problem

Do you hear the cooling fan? when engine is idling?

Its your choice-Remember the computer has to read the temperature from the coolant temperature sensor for other purposes such as fuel delivery and tranny shifting/overdrive etc. Best bet is just get another T-Stat with the correct Temperature for your model.

The final decision is yours-Good Luck

Should be on the heater hose before it goes in the heatercore.

Suggested Repair

Install a new thermostat with the correct opening temperature for this model rather than leaving it out. The coolant temperature reading is needed for fuel delivery and transmission shifting. If equipped, the heater control valve is on the heater hose before the heater core.

Conversation Summary

A 2002 Nissan GXE overheated and lost cabin heat after a thermostat replacement, heater-core flush, and radiator refill. Heat returned briefly, then the gauge climbed to red. The cooling fan ran only when overheating, not at idle. With the thermostat removed, heat returned but the gauge stayed cold. The expert advised fitting a correctly rated thermostat because the computer uses coolant temperature for fuel delivery and transmission control, and said a heater control valve, if present, is on the heater hose before the heater core.
