My 2003 chevy suburban will not shift out of reverse, the gear shift moves freely as if it is not connected to anything, I tried resetting the computer, that did not work, I now suspect it may be the shifter cable. Any suggestions? Can you tell me about the location of the shift cable and how to inspect it for damage?

It sounds like the linkage is disconnected. Check it on the transmissions. Let me know what you find.

Thank you so much! I got under and looked at the transmission while my friend moved the shifter and saw that the linkage had popped off, I just popped it back in and it works great! Thank you, one more question, is there anything other than the thing I popped back together to make

Hi:
Chances are that was the only problem. My only concern is why it came off. Was there a retainer you had to reinstall?
