I have a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse gts with about 61K miles. It is an automatic transmission v6 engine.

The problem I am having is that when I am going at slow speeds and I brake, there is a rubbing and creaking noise that sounds like it is coming from under the car. I took it to my mechanic who took it for a test drive and thought it was the front brake pads.I had them done a couple months ago and he was thinking maybe the wrong ones were put on. He replaced them at no charge, but the noise is still happening. It actually sounds like it is getting worse. I also had the rear ones done back in june. Is it possible that the noise is coming from the rear brake pads or could it be something else like a wheel ball joint or cv joint. Not quite sure what either of those are but that is what someone else actually thought it could be. I am wondering if I hit a pot hole and something came lose. I have been driving with this noise for about 2 months now and want to make sure that I am not doing long term damage to my car. I am thinking of taking it to the dealer to run a diagnostic but I would rather not be charged and arm and a leg.I may go to my neighbors mechanic so he can listen to the noise and know what it is and fix it. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. I also here a popping noise coming from the back when I accelerate at times. What could that be? Thank you!

I wonder if they are the same problem. The noise will be differnet under braking (loaded on all wheels) and accelerating (pulling front wheels) Check al;l bolts and bushings in the rear of the car. Also have the wheel bearings inspected
