Reversed Cables During Jump. Ouch!

I know, I know. Your all thinking, "What a dumb-***!" But yes it's true, I reversed the cables while I was jump starting my dead 95 Galant. I guess I just took for granted that I have done it so many times before, I just didn't take that extra second to double check everything (the cold rain didn't help much). The way I noticed that something was wrong is when I tried to start the car, I just heard a winding sound. The cables where connected the wrong way for maybe the total of minute. No more, probably less. After I connected the cable the correct way, I let the car run to charge for a few minutes, only to go inside and come back out to find it completely dead.

So here's the problem. Now that I have replaced the dead battery, the battery and brake indicator lights are coming on. The weird thing is, when I try to turn on the blower (AC or Heater) the lights go out, but the blower will not work at all.

I have checked all the fuses and from what I can tell, they are fine. I don't know how to check the black ones in the box under the hood however and I do not have a meter/gauge to use.

The weird thing is when I press on the accelerator there is an odd winding type noise coming from inside the driver-side door centered around the window/door lock controls (and yes the noise IS in the door, not the fuse box). Is there some fuse in there? Now it gets even weirder when I turn the AC/blower on. You can hear this winding noise from the vents and the noise from the door is subdued to almost nothing! The battery and brake indicator lights are still coming on, and they get brighter the harder I press on the accelerator.

OK, so, one more weird thing. When I first turn the car on, I have no AC/Blower until I first press the accelerator and then I am able to run it, with the noise still there of course.

A few more things to add; the door open indicator light, the dome light and the power door locks will not work, until I press the accelerator for the first time only, and then they are OK.

Also, when I turn on the headlights, the battery and brake indicator lights get real bright, but are normally just dimly lit.

Is it possible that I have fried something in the alternator? The battery seems to be holding a charge. I would take it and have it tested but I am afraid to drive it too far from the house! I have also read that I might have blown an 80 amp fuse somewhere but I don’t know if I have one or where to locate it.

Thanks for any help guys!

You need to get the electriical system tested, you may have damaged a few things including the main compuer.
