car sometimes makes noise when shifting gears

mitsubishi eclipse 1999 114000 dohc 2.0 non turbo (manual 5 gears)
the car sometimes makes grinding noise when i shift gears and sometimes will not shift all the way thru and i have to retry. Also sometimes at freeway speeds i couldnt downshift from 5 to 4th gear. im sensing a part is worn out..

Sounds like it may be time for a trans rebuild.Could have syncros that are worn causing the hard shifting and lack of ability to downshift
