Just had the rear brakes replaced. Thought that would get rid of the squeak in brake pedal. It happens when you press brakes and sometimes just after you release brake.

This squeak you hear, does it sound like a chirping noise? It could be the accumulator in the hydraulic brake system. The 2001 and the 2002 Montero Limiteds had a recall on those accumulators. The accumulators are little canisters with nitrogen gas that assist the hrydraulic braking system. When you haven't driven your car for several days is when this chirping noise first seems to appear. It lasts for 2 or 3 seconds and the longer you let it go, the more often it will chirp. It will begin chirping whether or not you're applying the brakes. When the accumulators leak, it creates a squeaky chirping noise that sounds almost like an excited chimpanzee. Assuming that is what you hear, it should still be covered under the factory recall. You'll need to take your Montero to a Mitzsubishi dealer. You can also do a google search on mitzsubihi montero accumulator for more info. Good luck Mrbushi
