AC has been charged and works fine until I stop the engine. Upon an engine restart, the air blows warm again. No leaks have been detected yet upon another evacuation and recharge everything works again until another engine restart. Machine shows 1.6lb being evacuated. We are stumped. My mechanic says I need a new compressor yet he is not too sure this will fix the problem.

Clutch does not engage. It's like it is dead but a day later, if I try the air, it works for a short period of time then gets warm during a long drive of maybe 10 minutes.

I'm thinking a bad high/low switch?

I would be getting the system leak tested first as if the refrigerant is low, the low pressure switch will cut in as you have indicated.

Leak test was done during both recharge attempts at my local garage. None was detected. Yellow oil/dye was added each time. No evidence of loss. Same amount of fluid removed and replaced each time. It may be that my mechanic cannot see the leak but the leak wouldn't just stop leaking after a point. It should leak everything out not just a small amount, correct?

Yes that is correct, so this will be an electrical issue, I will have to hunt up the correct wiring schematic and see what I can find.
