I'll try and put as much info into this post as possible. I have only worked on my car a few times, and I don't know very much, so please forgive my ignorance.

For about a month (or maybe a bit more than that) I've noticed my car has been taking a bit longer to start up than is normal. It has been turning for an extra second or two than is normal.

Today I got in my car to go to work and, surprise surprise, it won't start. When I try to start it, it turns slowly 2 or 3 times and then it gives up. I popped the hood and took a look, and there was not anything noticeably wrong. I didn't see any corrosion on the battery or any wires.

Lights turn on, powered locks work. The last time I had to take it to the mechanic, it was because I had a blown gasket and the spark plugs were submerged in oil.

Any thoughts?

If it has a week turnover, then it sounds like the battery is dead, try getting a jumpstart and see if it starts

Could the battery be dead even if the lights and cd player turn on, and the power locks work?

Yes, just because the lights and some other accessories turn on, doesnt mean there is enough amps to turn the starter and the starter to turn the flywheel/engine. All it takes is for the battery to be off by one or two volts and thats it, that car wont start.

Got it, that makes sense. So, if it is the battery, I should be ale to jump it and drive it to the mechanic right?
