This car grinds into first gear when RPMS are above idle, it grinds into third gear. I am assuming the syncos are going away? Would this be a valid assumption? If so how much does it typically cost to repair these. I can pull the tranny myself, but I don't know how to work on the inside.

OR could it be a cluth and/or master / slave cylinder problem? It works into 2nd, 4th, and 5th without and grinding.

Thanks

Crank it up in neutral, on a level surface, push the clutch all the way, shift in 1st. Now rev it a little -- does the car want to move? Even a little bit. If it soes, you clutch may not be clutching all the way.

Nope it does not move. So I am guessing this means I have internal problems with the tranny?

What can be done next? How much is a typical repair? Where can I find a used / rebuilt tranny to install?

The real mechanics on this site will disagree with this advice -- but for $15, I would try some Slick 50 trans oil or one of those other extra slippery additives. Its beats getting the trans worked on and at worse is a waste of less than $20.

It just might help enough to make your trans shift better.

And you might want to check to be sure your trans does have a ful amount of fluid.L
