I Have a '06 mitsubishi eclipse four cylinder with 173,000 miles. The problem I am having is that its stuck I n 3rd gear. Where it tells you what gear it is in like D, N, R and when I shift it over to the shifter it says 3 and still blinks. I know its not shifting from first to second to thrid its already in thrid when I take off. I didnt go fast enough to see if fourth still works. But the weird thing that gets me is when I take my key out all my lights come on and stay on like the check engine light, oil light, and interior lights, all of them, as if the car was still on so this makes me question if its an electrical problem or my transmission like I assumed?

It sounds electrical. Have you checked the ignition switch? It sounds like the problem could be coming from there.

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse mileage: 73,000. The car is an automatic transmission. It is having erratic shifting problems although they only occur when the car is not at the mechanics. Whenever the mechanic drives it the car behaves normally and so he was unable to reproduce the problem. Occasionally the transmission will slip, in addition, the engine will spin up the rpm scale. It is a rare occurrence although when the transmission starts slipping then other things happen like the car not wanting to shift gears. The check engine light also comes on.

The transmission may be failing but try servicing it; replacing the filter and fluid may help. The “check engine” light will “light” when there is a malfunction in the engine management system. The fault code is then stored in the computer. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. Because the check engine light indicates something is wrong, a trip to you neighborhood automobile service center sooner rather than later is recommended.

The first thing to do is check your master cylinder if you get behind the clutch pedal and the floor is wet if it is the master cylinder is out if its not try relacing the slave cylinder it is very simple and the part is only $30-$35 if its the master cylinder the part is about $70-$80 and I would also check the fluid level find the drain plug and stick you finger in it and make sure it is level with the plug hole

My transmission has a hard time getting into 3rd gear. Its a automatic. I got it into 3rd but it did not shift down or up. It was stuck in 3rd. I finally got it back to first. Is the sensor bad?

You need to bring it in and have it pressure tested-possibility here could be a shift solenoid, valve body, and pressure problem such as the throttle and governor pressure-might want to have the TPS and VSS sensors checked too-

Can I reboot my cars computer to make the transmission shift propperly? If so How?

The car starts off ok, but it won't go out of second gear. The Rpm's stay at about 4-5 at about 60mph.
I also noticed that in cooler weather it would shift out of that gear but once the car was run for a couple of miles (highway) and then stopped it would not want to shift out of that gear.

I had my transmission replaced a year ago and when I got the car back the company that replaced the Transmission said that it would shift fine when hooked up to their computers and shifted manually. When they took it off off their equipment it wouldn't shift propperly and told me that they had a error message for only the dealer could read. So I talked to some friends and they said that if I could reboot the cars computer it would probably fix the problem.

Transmission problem
1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 102000 miles

I am having a huge issue with my 98 eclipse GST.
I have been having this problem for a while now and I have had it looked at by a trans mechanic/electrical specialist/mechanic.
To start, when I shift into any gear, (automatic) whether it is reverse, drive, or any low gear, it feels like the engine or trans. Kicks hard into gear. Only when I shift into a gear, not into neutral or park.
When I start to move, with it in drive, the car with rev all of the way up to 6000 rpms if I step on the gas hard and then its slams into the next gear. ( This is when overdrive is off.) If I lightly press the gas, the rpms with go up normal but then, once again, slam into the next gear. The symptoms are worse when overdrive is on, but may not even shift at all (always with a slam) into the next gear. I can get up to any speed that I wish by doing this: I will turn off overdrive, accelerate quickly; when the rpms get around 5000, I let off the gas, the rpms drop to 1500-2000 and it lightly kicks into the next gear or may even totally skip over 2nd right into 3rd.I'm not quite sure which gear. Another problem is that when I reach this gear.I push the gas to accelerate (intending for the trans to kick into a lower gear) it kicks out of the gear I was in, but acts as if I am in neutral. But then when it is at a high rpm (5000-6000) it will slam and I let off the gas for it only to kick back into the gear it was in from the start. I recently had the engine computer replaced due to it sending the qrong voltage to the trans computer. This fixed the problem for a short period of time (about 3 weeks) but only came back worse than before.
This is very frusterating and I would like to upgrade my turbo/blow-off valve/body. But I need to fix this first.
If you can be of ANY help, that would be AWESOME!
Thanks!

What did I do wrong? How can I find instructions for the fix? I have a 95 eclipse gs w/ 5spd manual trans. I had to separate the transmission to replace the speed gear. Can the transmission go back together in the wrong gear? Or did I brake something putting it back together?

I separated this to pull out the differential gear (I would call it the front section?) Yes I can not get the trans out of 2nd. At the time the It was out of the car. I have NO play with the shift knobs on top of the trans. Normally they move freely by hand, not anymore.

It sounds like the shift rail is jammed or one of the forks is not in correct.
