1997 Mercury Villager

A auto shop recently changed a new A/C compressor on my villager and added freon. However, it still gets very slow to cool even if I sit in the front. There's one time my van was out in the sun for 6 hrs (in Phoenix) and I couldn't feel the cool air all the way home (around 30 min drove). I asked the mechanic why a new compressor didn't improve much? They said it's because it's big size and old age. I spend $900 on this new compressor. Is it normal?

Hi there,

A mechanic with good A/C knowledge will soon be able to tell you the problem when they test the system and check the hi& low pressures get this done first as this is the first thing any mechanic should do to diagnose this problem.
