1993 Mercury Topaz in tank fuel pump noise

I can hear the fuel pump pumping lately and never heard it before. Can hear it while car stopped and while driving, all speeds. Also I am getting a slight miss or hesitation while driving. Could it mean the fuel pump needs replaced?

Yes it is entirely possible the pump is the issue here although the noise is not what I would consider to be out of the realm of ordinary for a pump that has pumped 100K miles of fuel.
