No heater

Hi, I recently purchased a 1997 Mercury Sable GS 138, XXX miles. Strangely the heater does not work, but I have AC. There is a clicking noise comming from under the stereo when I turn the temperature to cold, when temperature is turned away from cold the clicking becomes a thuk, thuk. So I hear click, click and thuk, thuk?

This is a ford question but welcome anyway. It sounds like a vacume booster to the heat exchange door. The door may just be stuck. None the less, it is a ford, been there done that, not again!

Step 1 - A heater cannot operate unless the engine is full of coolant/antifreeze. If coolant level is low check the system for leaks.
