Mercury Sable 1996 Auto Transmission acts like neutral

I recently bought a 1996 Sable 110,000 miles. On two occasions the cara has failed to move forward when in drive after stopping at light. Both times it has driven fine after pulling selector to "2". Had transmission fluid and filtrer replaced after first episode.

Any thoughts out there?

these cars have had more TSB's written about transmission than any other. See if you can locate the control module it it triangular and is held on by 3 bolts. It has a powerful spring inside but you need to get this off and clean it out. You will loose a small amout of fluid doing this but after you reinstall it it may help. Insall it with even pressure don't let it slip off center! Don't forget me Vote!
