every so often on the passenger side of the car a get drips of antifreeze dripping on the outside and one day it had a musty odor on the inside. Every so often th temperture gauge shoots up to hot. What could be the problem?

This sounds like your heater core is leaking. The heater core is a coil where heated anti-freeze flows through-- your heater fan blows over this coil and blows heat inside the car. The musty odor is most likely anti-freeze fumes which are very dangerous to breath in. I suggest fixing this problem ASAP.
