1995 Mercury Sable Engine temperature

When I drive my car the car temperature rises very quickly to the top of the temperature gauge. Especially when I accelerate quicky it goes up imediatelly. It almost never stays at a normal level only when I stand at the traffic lights. Can you please advice what the problem might be?

Check your coolant level and also ensure the cooling fan(s) are coming on. Let me know how these look.

Yeah thanks that helped, but I think I may have a leak in the coolant tank itself or the radiator itself may be faulty or broken.
