1995 Mercury Sable Engine Stops while driving

My parents have a 1995 Mercury Sable, that stops while they are driving down the road. The engine cuts out without warning. Then it can take from a couple minutes to as much as 1 hour before the car will restart. I've read some who say MAS, some say Fuel pump, I don't want to start replacing parts at random, does anyone have any suggestions where to begin?

The only way to narrow it down is to test for spark and fuel pressure when it wont start. Then we can go from there, sounds ignition related since it cuts out so abruptly, but do a spark test to verify. Is the check engine light on? If it is, have it scanned to see if it stored any trouble codes
