dpfe is faulty

I have white smoke coming out of my tail pipe. What could be the cause. If the dpfe is faulty could this be the probllem? I do not have water in the oil.
The car is a 1997 Mecury Mystique 120000 miles the engine size is 2.0

There is a recall on 95-97 Mystiques for wiring harness degradtion. P0401 codes if present indicates your car may be covered under the recall.
Insufficient flow. As for the white smoke...usually this is anti-freeze being burned off. Do a compression test. U may need a head gasket!
