Just had a rear hatch put on after a rear end collision by a junk yard mechanic. He got the hatch on OK. It closes soundly and tight. The light on the inside of the trunk cavity goes off when it is closed but when the key is on and I'm driving the chime sounds as if a door is open. All doors are closed. This trouble only started after the old hatch was removed and replaced. Apparently there are two sensors in that hatch somewhere or the guy did not wire up the new hatch correctly. The sensor/switch at the latch works because with the hatch open the little side light goes out when I fake the latch closed by pressing down on the lock. Can you tell me where to look next?

That is the only switch there is. Check if for adjustment. Also, make sure the wiring to it wasn't damaged as a result of the accident. It could be shorting out and causing the system to think the deck lid is open.

Let me know what you find.

I checked wiring and see no opportunities for a ground. If there was a ground why would the inside trunk light go on when the lid is up and off when down. Unless there are 2 leads from the same sensor.
With key off the dome light will go off normally. With key on the dome light and chime will stay on whether the hatch is open or shut. Again I put key in ignition and turn to on position. I opened the trunk, the trunk light came on. I faked a closing of the trunk latch and the trunk light went off be dome and chime continued.
Also: According to what I have read there are 2 trunk latch relays under the passenger side of dash. Is it possible there are to switches controlling thoise relays?

There are two switches, C632 which is on the latch release (right side rear of trunk) and C798 which is on the lock/latch itself. I will have to see if there is a ground on the anti-theft/central locking module side of C632 or an open coming from C798
